How to Trust a Stranger
On the 23rd, 29th and 30th November, the first training course was delivered by the PNG Digital Commerce Association (PNGDCA), titled: How to Trust a Stranger: An Introduction to Digital Identity. The course covered a range of topics in the digital identity space and was well received with 37 registrations and 18 people completing the course.
Topics covered in the course included: the nature and structure of trust, the digital identification lifecycle, design criteria for identity systems, a cross-national survey of identity systems, best practices in digital security and identification, a guide to biometrics and how to objectively assess biometric technology, international and national standards in digital identity and security, an introduction to consortium blockchains and the role of identity in a blockchain ecosystem, and a deep-dive into four (4) national identity systems and a breakdown of what individual technologies they were implemented with.
It wasn’t all work – the group took part in a series of fun exercises to explore why privacy of data is critical in the design of systems, how cryptography works, and how to create an identification system.
Following the course, there have been repeated requests for more of this kind of training and knowledge sharing. The PNGDCA has committed to do this. In January 2019, the PNGDCA will commence its general member “drive” for the year and this kind of training will be provided to support and promote digital commerce in PNG.
